2011 Event Details
This 3rd annual event is a Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) sanctioned event, sponsored by the Fort Gibson Chamber of Commerce, and the Fort Gibson State Bank. It has been proclaimed "Smokin' the Fort BBQ Day", by Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, and has been declared the State Championship BBQ Competition. Friday evening events consists of a KCBS "Meet the Cooks" party, with a street dance and live music, with activities beginning at 6:00 PM, at the corner of Lee and Poplar Streets, in historic downtown Fort Gibson. A variety of food will be available.
Saturday's event begins at 9:00 AM, with live Bluegrass Music throughout the day, along with the Sanctioned BBQers, who are cooking for high-dollar prizes and awards, judged by Certified KCBS Judges. Plus, we also have local BBQ groups, churches, and individuals, vying for an additional cash award, in the "Taster's Choice Competition". Over $5000 in cash and prizes will be awarded. Taster kits will be available to sample all the Taster's Choice delights, along with official "Smokin' the Fort" T-shirts, and additional food and merchandise vendors. Family competition will be conducted throughout the day, including a pie-eating contest (for all ages), a "Recliner Race", and a costume contest for kids, teens, adults, and pets. It will definitely be a fun day for the entire family.
